If you know anything about contemporary dance or artists who have broken through and completely dismantled cultural barriers, this will make you happy. Performing Arts for All: Garden Isle Dance Academy is excited to announce they are hosting a rare opportunity to enjoy internationally acclaimed Cleo Parker Robinson Dance. This Ensemble has performed extensively, most notably for President Biden who awarded Ms. Robinson the 2023 National Medal of the Arts, the Nation’s highest award in the arts. Now she is bringing some of her brightest dancers to Kauai to demonstrate her ongoing commitment to community engagement, education, and cultural exchange through dance.
As part of a special school performance, Every Dancer Is A Star, the Cleo Parker Robinson Dance Ensemble will make a cameo appearance performing an excerpt from “We Rise,” from The MOVE/ment. Choreographed by Cleo Parker Robinson, this metamorphic work was first performed in 2019. It brings together a diversity of dancers and artistic voices, reflecting powerful moments of social change and the enduring belief that the arts serve as a catalyst for transformation, empathy, and hope. Inspired in part by the legacy of the Civil Rights Movement and the words of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., the piece encourages students to consider how the arts can give voice to history, identity, and positive change.
